There are two distinct advantages with this sling mount:

It is independent of the handstop

It can be located further away from the barrel

This benefits the shooter by allowing a reduced pressure across the back of the hand/wrist from the sling. It can be set for no pressure, but that feels very strange. Also fine adjustment of the sling length is more easily achieved by moving the clamping collar along the stock (relative to changing the actual sling length).
